Today, Teacher Li from BIM Architecture Network will continue to introduce the BIM model standard known as LOD. In this session, we will focus on explaining what LOD 400 and LOD 500 represent.
Definition of LOD 400
According to the AIA’s E202 document, LOD 400 refers to model elements that are modeled as specific assemblies with precise details regarding quantity, size, shape, location, and orientation. Additionally, non-geometric information may be attached to these model elements.
The E202 document further explains that LOD 400 involves model components assembled with accurate quantity, size, shape, position, orientation, and other essential information needed for complete manufacturing, assembly, and detailed construction. Non-geometric attribute data can also be incorporated into these components.
Components in an LOD 400 model contain exact details such as quantity, shape, direction, position, and size, along with thorough assembly and construction information. This level enables the production of construction drawings, precise quantity takeoffs, detailed material breakdowns, and supports assembly by construction manufacturers. It also facilitates the analysis of construction conflicts and energy performance of components.
In China, LOD 400 is defined as a model development stage suitable for contractors and construction companies to use for processing and assembly.
Definition of LOD 500
The AIA’s E202 document describes LOD 500 as model elements that are modeled as constructed assemblies, reflecting the actual and accurate size, shape, location, quantity, and orientation. Non-geometric information may also be attached to these modeled elements.
LOD 500 represents a constructed assembly of model components with precise data about actual quantity, size, shape, position, and orientation. Non-geometric attribute information is also included in the model components.
Components at the LOD 500 level contain actual data on quantity, shape, direction, position, size, and full spatial information, along with inspection records and all installation costs. In China, LOD 500 is defined as the model stage that incorporates all changes made during construction and aligns fully with the as-built conditions.
Summary
So, what exactly are LOD 400 and LOD 500? That concludes today’s discussion. Teacher Li has now introduced the BIM model standards from LOD 100 through LOD 500, aiming to help everyone gain a clearer understanding of these LOD levels.
