Che ‘Che’ Residences offer a refreshing living environment tailored to Merida’s climate. The name “Che ‘Che'” means “freshness” in the Maya language, and this concept is central to the design, aiming to infuse every space with a sense of coolness and vitality.

The idea of “freshness” is clearly expressed in the home’s layout: each interior space is accompanied by its own courtyard and garden, allowing residents to enjoy private, fresh air.

For the exterior, we selected grid walls as the facade to capture northern winds, which then circulate within the courtyards, generating airflow throughout the home. Water elements are integrated into the outdoor spaces to introduce moist air into each room, enhancing comfort.

During the design process, we aimed to use local materials such as stone, sand, and wood extensively. Our goal was to create a modular building while exploring how shadows from landscaping and architectural details interact. The courtyards expand the living space visually and help prevent heat buildup.

By utilizing natural materials found on site and implementing cross ventilation, the residence maintains a comfortable indoor climate. Northern light is carefully controlled to brighten the interiors, while water features contribute to a fresh and rejuvenated atmosphere. This home is designed for living—where the interplay of wind and shadow brings a true sense of freshness.

The residence’s first floor serves as the public area, featuring vehicle and pedestrian access, bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, dining room, living room, courtyard, and a swimming pool located behind the house. The second floor is a private area with three bedrooms: the first includes a closet and private balcony; the second features a closet that can double as a study; and the master bedroom offers a private bathroom, closet, and balcony overlooking the pool.
