This project marks the third phase of architectural design for Xi’an Huanpu Industrial Park and serves as the park’s final development phase. The first phase features multi-story courtyard office buildings, while the second phase consists of high-rise office towers. For the third phase, construction is constrained by regional development economic indicators, leaving only 10,000 square meters of building area available. To achieve nearly 120,000 square meters of development, the main challenge was minimizing the building volume’s environmental impact while creating a spacious and comfortable open environment.

The design carefully considers functional use, development timeline, and the overall city skyline. The layout increases in height from south to north, adopting a multi-level courtyard configuration. The building heights fluctuate to create a unified yet varied silhouette that resonates with the park’s core area. This approach not only defines an independent “garden” but also establishes a central “city” within the site.

Our design strategy combines multi-level structures with high-rise buildings. We developed modular office units based on essential functional requirements and area restrictions specified for individual partitions. These modules vary in size to accommodate different rental needs and allow flexible adaptation for companies of varying sizes, stacking into three-dimensional clusters.

Each unit cluster is capped at three floors and features a uniform, staggered aerial atrium within the building. Aerial corridors and staircases connect the floors around the atrium, promoting interaction among occupants and reducing reliance on elevators. This design also supports future expansion and provides open outdoor space, catering to post-pandemic needs for fresh air and social distancing in office environments.

The overall planning and design emphasize standardization and modularization, creating an efficient, organized layout that meets diverse corporate needs. This approach reduces the visual and spatial impact of high-rise buildings within the park. The third phase design balances the comfortable scale of mid-rise structures with the cost-effectiveness of high-rises. It integrates digital, information-based, and multifunctional requirements to provide a platform for varied activities and collaboration, fostering a comfortable and convenient office environment that nurtures innovation within the industrial park.
