The Anaya Cloud Center design proposal, led by Ma Yansong and developed by MAD Architecture Firm, has been unveiled. The building’s form resembles a floating cloud by the seaside, nestled within a “white stone garden.” Upon completion, it will serve as a new multifunctional public activity venue for the Anaya community.

Located at the heart of Shiyao Health City in Qinhuangdao, just east of the Beidaihe coastline, the “Cloud Center” is part of China’s renowned seaside cultural community, Anaya. The building accommodates various functions including a publishing hall, a small theater, and an exhibition space.

△ General layout plan

From a distance, the building appears as “a cloud floating in the forest.” Its smooth, flowing form reflects the ever-changing sky and light.

As you pass through the landscape and approach the site, the winding road opens to reveal the main building’s white cloud-like form unfolding before your eyes. The reflecting pool at the entrance mirrors the clouds and structure, blurring the line between architecture and nature.

The lightness of the “cloud” is made possible by an oversized structural overhang. The building is supported solely by a central core tube, which balances and suspends the structure on all sides. With a maximum overhang of 30 meters and no interior columns except the core tube, the design offers great spatial flexibility.

△ Profile B-B
The facade features a simple and pure material palette, using tempered laminated laser-printed milky white ultra-white glass to create smooth volumes and a floating effect.

The central multifunctional hall extends upward, with a swirling ceiling that reaches to the sky. Natural light flows abundantly into the space through skylights, enhancing energy efficiency. Open layouts and movable walls allow flexibility for diverse activities, including exhibitions, theater performances, conferences, and press events.

The white stones arranged in the courtyard form a star chart pattern.

The surrounding courtyards and the “cloud” building coexist harmoniously, enclosed by low circular walls that create a serene, otherworldly atmosphere. The undulating green spaces and white rocks evoke the imagery of floating planets in space.

Construction of the Anaya Cloud Center began in March 2021, with completion expected by the end of 2021. The building is slated to open for use in 2022.
