Located on the southern edge of Anaya Queyue Town, this venue consists of 12 independent small buildings within a single block, each operated by a different domestic food and beverage brand. Inspired by the philosophy of “jumping into the sea,” the design team aims to truly connect the neighborhood and offer a public space for visitors. As a result, emphasizing the communal aspects of architectural space became the core goal of this project.

The interlocking volumes of the buildings naturally create a winding street layout, fostering interaction among the independent units. To meet the operational needs of the cluster, the design team fully opened the ground floor, removing all movable walls. This allowed clear sightlines connecting the two small plazas to the north and south. Simultaneously, the interior scene was extended outward, inviting passersby to enter.

Originally designed as an artist’s studio, the building featured a blank interior space, primarily intended for residential and office use. Its vertical structural design follows a 3-meter module, which limits the floor height and poses challenges for commercial adaptation. The exterior windows are evenly spaced to support potential subdivision of small spaces and ensure even natural light inside. Additionally, the design needed to re-establish the dynamic of “seeing and being seen” among all users. These technical challenges shaped the team’s focus throughout the design process.

To counteract the oppressive feeling caused by the low ceiling height, the design team introduced several vertical voids of varying sizes. These breaks in the secondary structure open up the space, creating fluidity and continuous movement throughout. Additionally, a suspended atrium was crafted by connecting the upper and lower slabs of an east-side protruding cubic volume, linking the interior with the exterior.

Above the southern entrance, a cantilevered box extends from the second floor. This intimate space offers users an unobstructed view to the south, overlooking the northern bank of Anaya. At the same time, the transparent facade creates a “personal stage,” allowing occupants to be seen by passersby.

The exterior wall lighting is carefully adjusted to emphasize the natural light streaming through the roof skylight. Inside, the original structure and walls are fully exposed, while the newly added volumes are finished with mortar, ensuring a consistent overall texture.
