Kengo Kuma Architects has designed a luxury resort as part of a new tourism development project in Saudi Arabia.

Commissioned by Red Sea Development Co., Ltd., the project features seven different types of buildings. These structures are either scattered across the land or elevated above the water surface.

The architect aims to explore an ideal sustainable tourism model through this project. Each vacation home features a low, curved roof design, with facade curves that respond to the natural terrain of their specific locations.

The design draws heavy inspiration from the surrounding natural landscape. The roof curves of each vacation home harmonize with and complement the environment, creating a balanced and resonant relationship with the site.

As a subsidiary project of Red Sea Development Co., Ltd., this resort aligns with ambitious sustainability goals: zero landfill waste, zero ocean emissions, and zero single-use plastics. These targets support the company’s vision of achieving 100% carbon neutrality, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s leadership commitment to environmental responsibility.

The resort development emphasizes the protection and efficient reuse of renewable energy and water resources.

The entire Red Sea development project includes this luxury resort by Kengo Kuma and an airport designed by Foster + Partners. The first phase is scheduled to open to the public in 2022, with full completion expected by 2030.
