BIM Q&A | Which Role is Better: BIM Strategic Planner or BIM Project Manager?
Which career path is better? Currently, I am considering roles as a Building Information Modeling (BIM) Project Manager or a BIM Strategic Planner. I would appreciate your insights.
The BIM Strategic Planner focuses on the overall planning and coordination of the BIM process. In contrast, the BIM Project Manager oversees the execution and management of specific phases within a project.
Essentially, the Strategic Planner handles the preliminary stages, setting the foundation for BIM implementation, while the Project Manager is responsible for managing the later stages of the project workflow.
Your choice should align with your skills and experience. If you have a comprehensive understanding of the entire BIM process, the strategic planning role may be a better fit. On the other hand, if you have hands-on experience managing specific BIM tasks and implementations, the project management role would suit you well.
The full BIM process encompasses several stages: planning, design, bidding, construction, as well as operation and maintenance.
