BIM Q&A | Navisworks 2014 Cannot Open for Assistance After Installation
The issue is actually quite simple: the software needs a designated directory to store temporary files. This allows it to save modified project files and update the cache accordingly. However, because this directory is located in a system-protected area, users typically do not have permission to access it.
During the initial installation, a project cache directory accessible to the user was not specified. As a result, when attempting to open any project file, an error prompt appears. This behavior is similar to Maya’s default project file saving path. For example, when launching Maya for the first time, the default application folder is located at C:Documents and SettingsdavidMy Documentsmaya, which users often lack permission to access.
While batch processing can grant full administrator privileges to overcome this, it risks causing system damage and is therefore not recommended.
Additionally, please verify the following to ensure proper functionality:
- Confirm that the installation completed successfully.
- Check that the software version (32-bit or 64-bit) matches your computer’s architecture.
- Ensure that your system has sufficient memory available during runtime.
