BIM Q&A | How to Create Underwater Effects with Lumion 8
-
When opening Lumion, you’ll notice pre-set scenes featuring oceans and lakes. These presets work well for small scenes, allowing for some modifications, but they come with significant limitations. For larger custom scenes, it’s better to create the ocean effect from scratch.
-
To achieve an ocean effect, start with an empty scene. For example, if you select the first scene, navigate to the Landscape menu on the left, where you will find the Ocean option.
-
Clicking the Ocean option initially may not produce any changes because the ocean switch is turned off by default. Once you enable this switch, your scene will immediately transform into an ocean. Keep in mind that if the water is too shallow, the ground material beneath may be visible. In such cases, you should raise the water level or adjust the underlying terrain or materials accordingly. The ocean overlay uses the existing terrain material, so be aware of what your base terrain looks like before enabling the ocean.
-
You can fine-tune the ocean’s appearance by adjusting details like wave intensity, color, and other settings to better fit your scene.
-
Additionally, you can customize both terrain and ocean parameters to create effects ranging from simple beaches to islands or vast ocean scenes.
