BIM Q&A | How to Transform Vertical Building Columns into Horizontal Placement in Revit

All columns are oriented vertically by default. If you simply want to change the section direction, select the column and press the spacebar to rotate its orientation.

However, if your goal is to make the column lie flat or “collapse” horizontally, this is not possible. Columns can only remain vertical or be converted into diagonal columns. To achieve a truly horizontal structural element, you would need to use a beam instead.
