BIM Q&A | How to Adjust the Grid in Revit When It Doesn’t Align with the Facade
- First, open the floor plan in Revit where you need to adjust the grid lines. The floor plan will automatically display in the Revit workspace, allowing you to begin modifying the grid axes.
- In the drawing view, simply click on a grid line. On the left property panel, you will see the specific attributes of the selected grid line. Usually, this panel only shows the grid line’s name.
- To edit the grid line’s appearance, select it and click “Edit Type” in the properties window. This will open the grid type settings dialog, where you can make directional adjustments.
- Within the grid type properties window, there are several settings you can modify. Typically, for grid lines, you will adjust the “Axis Line Middle Section”. By default, this option is set to “Continuous”.
- Click on the “Continuous” dropdown, and Revit will present three options: “Continuous,” “None,” and “Custom.” Try selecting “None” first, then click “Apply”.
- After applying this setting, you will notice a clear change in the grid line on your drawing: the middle section of the grid line disappears completely, leaving only the grid line labels on both ends and shorter start and end lines.
- Next, select the “Custom” option. This will reveal two additional settings: “Axis Middle Section Color” and “Axis Middle Section Fill Pattern.” You can adjust these options to customize the grid line’s appearance.
- Click on “Axis Middle Section Color”, which opens a color picker window. Here, you can choose the desired color for the grid line’s middle section. Most grid lines are typically black.
- After choosing the preferred line style and color, click “OK” to save your changes. Usually, the middle section of the grid line has a visible line, but for some special design drawings, you can remove it to improve plan clarity.
