BIM Q&A | The project management company wants to form a BIM team but is unsure how to start. I’ve heard the latest trends go beyond just cloud technology…
5D BIM, as the name implies, adds two additional dimensions—time (4D) and cost (5D)—to the well-established 3D modeling technology. This means BIM is no longer just a simple digital building model; it now spans the entire building lifecycle, extending its data applications throughout the whole construction process.
Essentially, 5D BIM serves as a comprehensive management tool for the entire construction workflow. By leveraging 5D BIM, you can create a detailed virtual project plan before actual construction begins. This approach helps minimize the risk of rework and eliminate unnecessary cost overruns by providing precise construction information.
When it comes to 5D BIM software, Guanglian Da is a prominent name in the Chinese market, while Germany’s RIB Group is widely recognized across Europe. I won’t delve into the specifics of these two, as detailed information is readily available online.
However, I would like to highlight a new 5D BIM software called YTWO Formative. This product, which currently has no Chinese name, was launched by a new company established at the end of last year. It is a joint venture between RIB Group and Weichuangli, a Fortune 500 manufacturing giant based in the United States.
YTWO Formative uniquely integrates RIB’s 5D BIM capabilities with Weichuangli’s manufacturing and supply chain expertise. In practical terms, this software allows you to apply 5D BIM throughout the entire construction project lifecycle while simultaneously managing orders for necessary products and prefabricated components. This integrated optimization significantly reduces costs and time, boosting overall efficiency.
