This project is situated in the Changqing Economic Development Zone, approximately 20 kilometers from the center of Jinan city. The area remains largely undeveloped, with a chaotic surrounding environment. A high-voltage transmission tower stands amid the overgrown farmland nearby. To offer visitors the best visual experience, the designer has isolated the site from its surroundings, creating a relatively inward and enclosed space.

The architectural design draws inspiration from Wang Wei’s poem “Autumn Night in Mountain Dwelling”, which reads: “After a new rain in the empty mountains, the weather is late in autumn. The bright moon shines among the pine trees, and clear springs and rocks flow up.” The building is formed by interlocking four “stone blocks,” resembling a clear spring flowing from rock crevices. Constructed from white perforated panels, the structure exudes a refined and elegant cultural charm. The northern boundary features a waterfall-like design integrated with lush vegetation and micro terrain, enhancing the building’s fresh and serene atmosphere while enriching its cultural presence.

The building serves multiple functions, including residential sales display, industrial exhibition, and office spaces. The main entrance is positioned on the west side. To mitigate the visual impact of the nearby cluttered environment, geometric slopes surround the square, gradually rising as visitors enter to screen the surroundings. This design blends mountains, water, and jade, creating a harmonious and luminous presence in the untamed wilderness.

A secondary skin, composed of perforated panels, envelops the main structure, forming an enclosed space. The curtain wall blocks tilt and nestle together, interlocking internally. The gaps where these blocks intersect naturally serve as building entrances. Activities take place within this perforated panel enclosure, connecting to the outside world through irregular openings. The interior is subtly visible through the white panels. At night, light filters through, causing the building to glow like shimmering jade in the wilderness.

The perforation rate of the panels varies from top to bottom, reflecting the building’s internal functions. The first and second floors, primarily display areas, feature higher perforation rates for increased transparency. The third and fourth floors serve as office spaces, requiring more privacy; therefore, these levels have smaller perforations to create a more enclosed environment while maintaining natural lighting. This gradual change in panel perforation creates a visual hierarchy on the facade. The perforated panels act as an ecological skin, providing sun shading and enhancing environmental friendliness. The space between the glass curtain wall and the perforated panels enriches the spatial experience inside the building.

For the landscape design, a large cascading water feature was installed along the main road’s display facade to echo Jinan’s nickname, the “Spring City.” Water flows down a four-meter-high stone staircase, creating a dynamic visual element. The main entrance of the industrial exhibition hall is located on the second floor, concealed behind the cascading water and accessible via a connecting bridge. Walking across the bridge, visitors experience a contrast: a rushing waterfall on one side and a tranquil water surface with a welcoming pine tree on the other. This juxtaposition of movement and stillness reflects the poem’s imagery of the bright moon shining through pine trees and clear springs flowing over rocks. Before entering the building, visitors are already drawn from the wilderness into a serene paradise.

The building’s interior seamlessly continues the exterior design, with perforated panel elements extending from the entrance inward. A four-story atrium serves as a sand table area and acts as the central focus of the space. Natural light streams through a skylight, surrounded by perforated panels, creating a grand and ceremonial atmosphere. An observation window cut into the enclosed panels allows visitors on upper floors to overlook the sand table below, fostering interaction and energizing the space.

The first floor functions as the residential sales display center. The walls at the main entrance and multifunctional rest area extend the building’s blocky and minimalist architectural style into the interior. The four-story-high atrium, clad with perforated panels, creates a unified and striking visual effect. Two connecting bridges span the atrium, promoting interaction between different floors. Their mirrored stainless steel surfaces reflect the atrium, seemingly suspending them in mid-air. The observation window on the curtain wall allows visitors to overlook the sand table below, enhancing spatial transparency. The sunken sand table adds depth and ceremony, making the atrium a visually impactful “floating box.”

The second floor houses the industrial exhibition hall. The interior facade continues the form of the exterior entrance wall, following the building’s outline with a folded-paper-like design consistent with the overall architectural language. The concept of “stones” is woven throughout the exhibition hall, connecting the reception area to various display spaces. The turning walls introduce spatial variety. Perforated panels on the atrium facade unify the space, while observation windows provide visitors with engaging views and interactive experiences across floors.

The integrated approach to architecture, landscape, and interior design ensures the project stays true to its concept. While isolated from the surrounding environment, the building stands out as a focal point in the area, fulfilling its role as a display center and sales office, and opening new opportunities for regional development.
