Living amidst a green forest, growing together under the canopy of trees, this project embodies a harmonious dialogue between architecture and nature.
The renovation retains the original structure while expanding the space, preserving memories embedded in the existing environment.

Located on Fuhai Street, Bao’an District, Shenzhen, adjacent to Lixin Lake Park and at the junction of Dayang Road and Tangxin Road, the site is characterized by a lush abundance of trees and indistinct boundaries.
The project’s objective is to renovate and upgrade the existing building foundation, making effective use of the site’s natural features to enliven the atmosphere.

The design minimizes intervention in the existing environment, reshaping spaces to foster a meaningful dialogue between architecture and nature.
Originally, the building was a three-story Ocean First Living Dormitory with 7m by 7m column spans and floor heights of 4m. This renovation repurposes approximately 1,340 square meters on the first floor for exhibition space, while the second and third floors serve as office areas.
The design respects the current site conditions and emphasizes harmony with the existing environment.

Original Site Conditions:
- Limited display surface along the west-facing street facade.
- Spacious front area on the south facade, complemented by trees on both sides.
- Damaged original facade with exposed iron pipes and insufficient lighting on the first floor.
- Dense, well-arranged forests on the south side, enhancing the site’s natural character.
The key design challenge is to unlock the site’s potential while minimizing intervention, enhancing the building’s openness, and fostering a “dialogue” with the surrounding ecology.

The design integrates the building seamlessly into the green forest, promoting a lifestyle that harmonizes architecture and nature.
Architecture and trees coexist, each giving and taking what they need. The renovation follows principles of minimal environmental impact and prioritizes the preservation of green spaces and existing structures, breathing new life into the building.

The natural surroundings give the building a unique character and powerful artistic presence, rooting the renovated structure in the site like the existing trees, fostering a close and harmonious coexistence with the environment.

The design approaches the environment with an attitude of “integrating into nature,” highlighting the inclusiveness of the natural world and the openness of the architecture.
The building’s first floor features floor-to-ceiling glass walls, offering transparency that ensures abundant natural light and ventilation indoors. The lush trees outside are visually incorporated into the museum, extending the existing ecology into the interior and blurring the boundary between building and nature.

The facade renovation embraces simplicity, using lightweight, structurally efficient white perforated aluminum panels. These panels provide the necessary transparency for the second and third floors while creating a dynamic interplay of mottled light and shadow.
This multi-layered texture adds depth and richness, enhancing the visual experience of the renovated exterior.

A gentle breeze stirs scattered shadows, and subtle fragrances fill the air, creating a vibrant forest garden atmosphere that fosters a symbiotic relationship with nature.

At night, when the curtain wall lights illuminate the building, it blends seamlessly with the environment, extending the natural landscape.
Visitors are immersed in a tranquil tree garden, admiring the sparkling starry sky winding through the forest, experiencing a full sensory connection with the green surroundings.
