“Seeing the mountains” represents a healthy lifestyle and serves as a distinctive health emblem.

Located in the heart of the Livable and Healthy City in Xingyang City, Henan Province, China, this project is adjacent to the new city core and Jingxiang Cultural and Ecological Park to the south. It benefits from abundant ecological resources nearby, while to the west it connects to the Wanshan Suohe Ecological Corridor. The site enjoys a separation from the urban environment, offering excellent natural resource conditions.

The urban exhibition hall of Shenye Health City integrates multiple health industry functions, including health and wellness displays, a standard rehabilitation hall, aging-friendly residences, a sleep center, nature education camps, and aerial pharmacies. The design responds to environmental needs by creating a mountain city visual corridor and fostering social interaction within. Branded as the “Valley of Mountains,” it strategically positions itself to develop advanced health industries, leading the way as a health demonstration model for the future.

As the opening scene of Shenye Health City’s landscape, the project concept named “Jian Shan” aims to create a space that coexists harmoniously with nature, inviting people to naturally engage with the architectural environment.

Concept Analysis: “Village + Water + Mountain”
The design deeply respects the local ecology and embraces sustainable, ecological, and human-centered principles. It draws inspiration from natural health elements—mountains, streams, valleys, and forests—and uses abstract design techniques to translate these into architectural forms: mountains become shapes, streams turn into veins, terraces shape valleys, and forests create the surrounding environment.

The architectural form integrates with the southern park through a permeable green valley. This stepped, three-dimensional green valley breaks the building into six abstract, mountain-shaped forms. The proportions are comfortable, with staggered, natural, and organic layouts.

The building facade employs stone textures to evoke the spirit of the mountains, combined with extensive glass surfaces. This interplay of solid and transparent materials enriches the facade’s rhythm and diversity. The overall design embodies the mountain’s form, with rich architectural expressions and spatial layers, creating a valley-like experience full of spatial interest.

The design extracts mountain elements by vertically growing green valleys and horizontally integrating ecological infiltration. Once greenery is embedded, it shapes the final architectural form, crafting an organic spatial settlement.

Given the high-density nature of modern cities, developing and utilizing roof spaces has become a vital trend. This design encourages people to ascend from the plaza onto the building’s roof via steps, expanding activities from a one-dimensional ground level into a dynamic, two-dimensional experience linking multiple levels.

The diamond-shaped skylight atrium atop the Green Valley fills the interior with natural light. Around this atrium, internal functions unfold in an orderly manner, creating a captivating spatial experience with harmonious form and function.

The expansive glass curtain wall connects visually with the urban green axis park, creating a miniature natural landscape featuring mountains to climb, streams to explore, valleys to wander, and forests to admire.

The primary building materials are natural, featuring horizontally staggered stone textures that create an organic, refined surface. Wood-colored materials enhance the ecological atmosphere, bringing occupants closer to nature.

By combining these natural materials, the space offers a warm, healthy, and relaxing environment. The exhibition hall is shaped into a unique local health emblem that coexists naturally with its surroundings.

The interplay of hardscape and greenery forms an outdoor space full of variation. Incorporating elements such as tree arrays, water features, fountains, and landscape ornaments alongside areas for social activities creates a layered, holistic landscape system that enhances the vitality of the natural and organic spatial settlement.

With views of distant mountains and verdant scenery, the residential area design combines the spatial layout of traditional Chinese gardens with modern, minimalist elements. This fusion captures traditional cultural context and texture, shaping a refined modern lifestyle.

The facade design follows a classical three-part structure, emphasizing axial symmetry and the proportional use of classical architectural language. It highlights cultural expression and symbolism, creating a new era residential space that is “inspired by the East and driven by modernity.”
