Atelier11’s studio is uniquely positioned at the crossroads of two distinct urban planning systems: to the north lies a recently completed grid-based urban development, while to the south, an organic system preserves natural forms. In this harmonious setting, the design proposes an approach that integrates spatial transformations into a complex whole inspired by abstract Platonic forms. This serves as a mediator, simultaneously revealing the earth’s natural shape.
The architectural layout forms a visually striking triangle that respects the original geography. Various triangular shapes of different sizes encourage interaction between people and nature. The angled cuts are designed to optimize southern sunlight at an incidence angle of 25.5 degrees. Additionally, the square frame perpendicular to the roof echoes the silhouette of Hara Mountain against a white background, reflecting local architectural characteristics.
The design consists of four stacked triangular volumes that adapt to the natural terrain. Serving as a connecting element for people, space is strategically cut and displayed at varying heights. By manipulating the volume of simple geometric shapes, the design offers a variety of spatial sequences and experiences.
