Revit Freezes for 20-40 Seconds When Clicking the 'Files' Tab

Issue: Revit Freezes for 20-40 Seconds When Clicking the “File” Tab

Question:

A user reported that when clicking the “File” tab in Revit, the ribbon freezes for 20 to 40 seconds. Additionally, recently opened models and series do not appear in the Revit Home screen.

Status:

This issue has been resolved in the following versions:

  • Revit 2019.2.2
  • Revit 2020

To install updates, open the Autodesk Desktop Application and click My Updates. To install a new version of Autodesk software, log in to the Autodesk Desktop Application and click My Products. Alternatively, you can log in to your Autodesk account through a web browser. Access to new versions or updates depends on your Autodesk software licensing rights.

Additional Information:

The freeze is related to the “Recent Files” list, as one or more models in this list may be causing the issue.

Solution:

Clear the Recent Files list by editing the Revit.ini file:

Navigate to the following path:

C:UsersUsernameAppDataRoamingAutodeskRevitAutodesk Revit<Version>

Open the Revit.ini file using Notepad.

Delete the sections named [最近文件列表] (Recent Files List) and [最近工作集列表] (Recent Worksets List), including all their entries at the end of the file.

Alternative Option:

You can delete the entire Revit.ini file. It will be automatically recreated when you start and close Revit. Note: Deleting this file will reset all your Revit configuration options to their default settings.

To access the Open dialog box quickly, press Ctrl+O after clicking File.

You can also create custom keyboard shortcuts by navigating to File > Options > Keyboard Shortcuts.
