Easily Create Realistic Terrain in Revit

Quickly Create Realistic Terrain in Revit

Today, we will demonstrate how to import terrain models from Infraworks into Rhino and Revit. First, use Infraworks’ model generator to select the desired area for import. The generated model appears as shown below:

Next, export the Infraworks model in FBX format. You can define interactive boundaries using polygons.

Import the exported model into Rhino, where it retains a highly realistic appearance.

Then, export this model from Rhino as a DXF file, or alternatively, use FormIt to export it in DXF format.

Open Revit and patiently wait for it to load…

Use the Import CAD function to bring in the DXF file exported from Rhino or FormIt.

After import, select the terrain surface under the Massing & Site tab, choose the imported DXF file, confirm by clicking the checkmark, and wait silently.

The resulting terrain is smooth and silky, with a texture reminiscent of polished wood!
