Navisworks SwitchBack Function Application
Today, many rendering and animation software, along with Revit, offer real-time dynamic update features. Examples include Fuzor, Lumion, and Twinmotion. Among these, Fuzor was the first to introduce this functionality, providing an excellent experience for real-time updates in Revit. Additionally, its roaming and animation features are highly effective. When performing mold checks, users often choose to roam in Fuzor; if any issues are spotted, they can select the corresponding components, which are also selectable within Revit views. This seamless interaction makes it easy to review and verify specific model components.
In fact, Autodesk’s Navisworks Manage software provides similar capabilities. Here is a detailed overview:
First, in the external options bar under the add-ons menu, select Navisworks 20xx to export the NWC file (where “xx” represents the version number). Then, open the NWC file using Navisworks Manage 20xx.
While browsing or roaming through the model files, if you identify any problematic components that require modification, you can select the component and highlight it under the Project Tools tab. Within this tab, you will find the Return to options bar, as illustrated below:
Clicking on Return to will prompt a pop-up message reminding you to ensure that the corresponding Revit project file is open and running. Navisworks then switches back, as shown in the image:
On the Revit side, within the add-in panel, select the second option in the external column, shown here:
After clicking Run, select the problematic component in Navisworks and click Run again. The Return to function will then automatically import the Navisworks viewpoints into Revit, highlighting the selected problematic component. This makes it straightforward to locate and modify the component, as demonstrated below:
