How to Control Model Text in a Revit Family
When designing models in Revit, model text is frequently used but cannot be directly controlled within Revit projects. Here’s a step-by-step guide to managing model text effectively:
1. Start by creating a regular model based on faces and draw reference lines to guide the placement.
2. Place the model text and lock it to the reference lines both horizontally and vertically, as demonstrated in the illustration.
3. Add parameters to the text: select the model text, then in the properties bar, choose the associated family parameter. In the pop-up dialog box, click on the parameter and enter the desired text content, as shown.
4. Add a parameter to control the text size, as indicated in the figure.
5. Create a new regular model family file and stretch a rectangle shape within it.
6. Load the newly created model text family into this new family file. Place it on the face, and lock the reference planes and reference lines within the model text family file to control the positioning and behavior of the model text.
7. Link the text content and text size parameters from the model text family file to the main family file.
8. Adjust the text size by entering formulas that modify the length and width parameters.
9. Finally, change the family’s length and width dimensions to display the model text centered properly.
