How to Add Instance Properties in Revit
In real-world projects, many construction techniques rely on methods detailed in drawing sets. When you need to track the sources of these drawing sets but cannot find an appropriate property to record this information, adding instance properties becomes necessary.
1. Create a New Shared Parameter: In the family editor, go to the Create tab and click Family Types. Then click New Parameter → select Shared Parameters. When prompted, confirm by clicking Yes.
2. Edit Shared Parameters: Click Create to open a dialog box where you select the save location for your shared parameters file. Under Group, click New to create a category for better organization, and enter the group name. Then, under Parameters, click New to open another window. Enter the parameter name (in this case, a Chinese field), choose Text as the parameter type, and click OK.
3. After confirming, you will return to the Parameter Properties dialog box. Here, select Instance as the parameter type and then click OK.
Back in the Family Types dialog box, you will see the newly created parameter. Click OK, then click Load into Project to overwrite the existing family version.
4. In the project environment, select the element you want to modify. You can now add this new instance property parameter in the element’s Properties panel.
