The serene white waters of Dianchi Lake seem timeless, surrounded by mountains and crystal-clear waters that reveal the lakebed below. Here, mountains and water are treasured natural resources, and preserving their essence means restoring nature itself. This project aims to create a spiritual connection with nature, allowing appreciation of architectural purity alongside the surrounding landscape.
Guided by the design philosophy of architectural master Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s famous “less is more,” the building features a full glass curtain wall as its main façade. This is paired with wide eaves clad in pearl white aluminum panels, light gray quartz bricks, and other simple materials, combining to form a pure, minimalist space. This approach reflects the designer’s original intent of “disappearance,” where the architecture gradually fades into the landscape, inviting the stunning views of Caohai to flow seamlessly into the interior.

In contemporary aesthetics, the phrase “less is more” has evolved to emphasize simplicity and refinement over complexity and extravagance. The exterior of Yunhai No.1 Lecture Hall embodies this concept through a natural, modern, and minimalist design, abstracted into clean and simple forms.
The boundary between inside and outside is blurred by the expansive glass curtain walls, showcasing the harmonious integration of modern architecture with the natural environment.

As night falls, the surroundings darken, leaving only the warm, inviting glow from the lecture hall by the grassy lakefront to draw visitors’ attention and footsteps.
