Research on Joystick Deviation Issues in Revit
First, it is important to note that for a family to display a joystick when loaded into a project, the relevant parameters within the family must be set as instance parameters, as shown in the following image:
Upon investigation, copying the outline into a new family and stretching it again prevented the joystick from deviating when loaded into the project. However, the lower control handle disappeared, as shown below:
Clicking on Edit Family for further inspection, we discovered that locking the bottom plane automatically locks it to the reference level. This causes the lower joystick to be invisible after loading the project. A closer look reveals another reference plane coinciding with the reference level. Selecting this reference plane shows its property as “Reference.” By default, it is set as a non-reference plane. Changing it to a weak reference and locking the lower part of the family to this plane resolves the issue, as illustrated below:
After loading the project with this adjustment, the joystick appears correctly in both upward and downward directions, as demonstrated in the image below:
Returning to the issue raised by the user, further analysis revealed that the stretching plane was based on a linked CAD drawing. Within the family editor, there is a filled region linked to a detailed drawing project named “Profile Collection.dwg-1.” It is suspected that this reference causes the joystick’s offset when loading the project. Attempting to delete this linked DWG file results in an error message stating it cannot be deleted, as shown below:
Since the last type cannot be deleted directly, a workaround is to copy the family to create a new one and replace the original “Profile Collection.dwg-1.” Deleting the linked DWG in this new family triggers only a warning, which can be confirmed. After reloading the project, the joystick returns to normal operation!
