With the growing adoption of prefabricated concrete structures in China, the use of sandwich insulation exterior wall panels has become increasingly common in practical engineering projects. Tie members, as crucial load-bearing elements within these sandwich panels, ensure the structural integration of the three-layer assembly and withstand various load conditions.
Among the different types of tie connectors used in China, stainless steel tie connectors stand out due to their low thermal conductivity, excellent durability, and high strength. These connectors effectively prevent thermal bridging at tie locations, enhancing the wall’s insulation performance and overall safety. Consequently, stainless steel tie connectors have become the most widely used connection technology in industrial building construction.
This article offers a comprehensive guide to the installation methods for stainless steel insulation connectors. Drawing from actual factory production and management experience, it outlines key construction process requirements. The focus is on the installation of stainless steel tie fittings, specifically covering the steps involved in installing these components during the exterior wall panel production process.
1. Pre-drilling the Insulation Board
The common types and specifications of stainless steel tie fittings are illustrated in the figure below. Generally, needle-type tie pieces do not require pre-drilling. However, for plate-type tie pieces, a slot matching the size of the plate must be pre-drilled at the designated positions on the insulation board, according to the installation layout.
The benefits of pre-drilling include:
(1) Facilitating the installation of plate-type tie pieces during construction, which improves production efficiency;
(2) Allowing verification of the plate-type tie component positions to ensure compliance with the tie component design drawings.
