How to Create a Handrail Support Family in Revit
After completing the stair drawing, we often need to customize the styles of handrails, railings, posts, and other stair components to suit specific requirements. In some cases, such as hospital stairs or public building stairs, handrails need to be installed near walls and require proper support. Today, we will explore the process of creating handrail support families in Revit.
Stair Support Family Style
Start by opening the Revit Family Template. Select the “Metric Armrest Support” template and rename the file to “Armrest Wood Support.” Set the maximum number of backups to 1. The template includes reference planes for “Handle Spacing.” Add additional reference planes as needed, annotate dimensions, and assign parameters such as Fixed Disk Thickness and Fixed Disk Diameter.
Using the stretch command, select the appropriate reference plane and switch to the elevation view.
In the Front Elevation View, add parameters to the stretched circle, naming it Connecting Rod Radius. Then, switch to the plan view and lock the connecting rod to the reference plane.
Next, use the Rotate command in the reference elevation to draw a Boundary Line. Select the axis line and lock the created stretch to the reference plane.
Finally, load the created armrest support family into your project. Select the railing you want to modify, press the Tab key to select the “Armrest Type,” then change the support family type and assign the appropriate materials.
