How to Fix Z-Axis Elevation Differences When Importing CAD Files into Revit

How to Fix Z-Axis Elevation Discrepancies When Importing CAD Files into Revit

Question: While learning mold flipping, you might encounter an issue where the Z-axis elevation of the CAD layers is uneven, as shown in the image below. This inconsistency can make modeling difficult and may cause CAD drawings to float unpredictably, which can be quite frustrating.

Solution: Follow these steps to align the Z-axis elevations properly:

1. Press Ctrl + A to select everything on the screen.

2. Use the Move (M) command. For the first point, enter coordinates 0,0,0 and confirm. For the second point, enter 0,0,1e99 (which is the number 1, the letter “e,” and the number 99) and confirm.

3. Press Ctrl + A again to select everything.

4. Use the Move (M) command once more. For the first point, enter 0,0,1e99 and confirm. For the second point, enter 0,0,-1e99 and confirm.

5. Press Ctrl + A to select all elements again.

6. Finally, use the Move (M) command one last time. For the first point, enter 0,0,-1e99 and confirm. For the second point, enter 0,0,0 and confirm.

This process effectively normalizes the Z-axis elevation across your CAD layers, making modeling smoother.
