How to Create and Place Reinforcement Families in Revit

Creating and Placing a Revit Reinforcement Family

Start by creating a new family and selecting the rebar shape template labeled “CHN” for drawing. We will begin by designing a simple hoop. Open the Family Type Editor and set the style to “hoop/hoop.”

Next, under the Family Editor tab, choose the Multi-Plane option to access the plan view. Use the line tool to sketch the hoop shape. Once complete, reopen the Family Type Editor and adjust both the starting and ending hooks to 135 degrees.

Add length and width annotations to the stirrups, assigning labels “A” and “B” respectively. This setup allows you to modify the stirrups within the family parameter editor. Input values for labels A and B to prepare the steel bars for loading into your project.

Load the steel bar family you created into your Revit project. Add a section view to the beam where the steel bars will be positioned. Then, place your steel bar family within the beam section. Finally, control the spacing and quantity of the stirrups through the layout settings.
