How to Create Conceptual Mass Surfaces in Revit

Creating Conceptual Mass Surfaces in Revit

Start by creating a conceptual volume model. For this example, we will use a simple rectangle.

Open a new Metric Conventional Model Based on Fill Patterns family template. Inside the family editor, draw any one of the four reference points and connect them. Use the Point Element tool to create a line at the location of the reference point, shaping the desired window frame outline with the line.

Next, select the newly drawn Outline in the model, along with the four base points. Then, click on Create Solid Shape to generate the window frame’s outline. This process is similar to the layout command in family templates.

Insert the created family template into the previously made rectangular volume. Press Tab to select one of the planes, then click on Split Surface to divide the surface. After selecting the split surface, choose the contour family you just created from the drop-down menu in the properties panel on the right. This will apply the drawn contour to the entire surface.
