How to Configure Revit Settings to Reduce Computer Load
When working on large projects in Revit, it’s common for most computers to experience lag or other performance issues. Besides hardware limitations, there are software techniques to help ease the computer’s workload, as outlined below.
1. When integrating or reviewing models, go to the Management tab and select Clear Unused Items. This command helps reduce project file size by removing unused element types. It usually takes 3 to 4 iterations of clicking Select All and then clearing the selected items. Continue this process until the number of items selected no longer changes.
2. Adjust the display mode to reduce stress on your system. Change the Visual Style to Coloring, then open Graphic Display Options. In the dialog box, uncheck Display Edges and check Use anti-aliasing to smooth lines, improving performance while maintaining visual clarity.
3. Unload any unnecessary linked models and CAD drawings. Under the Management tab, select the Manage Links command to unload linked files that are not currently needed in your project.
Applying these methods can help your model run more smoothly. However, if your project files remain large, it may be necessary to upgrade to a higher-spec computer to ensure optimal performance.
