Application of Section Range in Revit
When working on a project in Revit, many details can become quite complex. For instance, adjusting the management system directly on the plan or elevation view is often not possible. In such cases, creating a section at the relevant location allows you to perform the necessary operations more effectively.
To create a section, simply use the section tool within a plan or elevation view. This action generates a corresponding section view in the Project Browser, as illustrated below.
The same process applies to elevation views; however, elevation views only allow for vertical sections. If you need to create horizontal sections within an elevation view, you must rotate the view by a certain angle, as shown in the example.
When dealing with components that are not aligned on the same plane, multiple sections are usually required. This can make the overall view appear complex and cluttered. To address this, Revit provides the Split Line Segment command, which allows you to edit section lines. Simply select the section line and click the Split Line Segment command to control one side of the view range, as demonstrated below.
After splitting, you can adjust the section view range on each edge by dragging the arrows. For example, if a wall has varying heights represented by different colors, adjusting the section view range for each edge will display the different colors appropriately, as shown in the image.
The takeaway: while profiles are essential during modeling or drafting, creating too many can clutter the view. Using the Split Line Segment command helps reduce the number of sections, making the views cleaner and more visually appealing.
