Key Considerations When Using Worksets in Revit
The previous section highlighted the features and benefits of using worksets in Revit. However, there are important precautions to keep in mind to avoid potential issues. Below are the essential tips for effectively managing worksets.
(1) Autodesk has released many versions of Revit software over time. Project team members may have different versions installed on their computers, but it is crucial that everyone uses the same version of Revit on all machines sharing the workset to ensure compatibility.
(2) To hide a specific workset, use the Collaboration > Worksets command to globally turn off the visibility of its elements. Avoid hiding elements through the Visibility/Graphics dialog, as this does not fully disable the workset.
(3) When creating a new workset, to improve performance, only select the Visible in all views checkbox in the New Workset dialog if absolutely necessary.
(4) Always create a local copy of the central model. This reduces the load on the central file server and allows you to work locally. Synchronization with the central file should be done as needed, for example, when other team members require your latest updates.
(5) When synchronizing with the central file, enable the Compact Central Model option to reduce file size. This process overwrites the entire file and removes outdated data to save space. Since compression takes longer than a regular save, it is recommended to perform it only during breaks or when work can be paused.
(6) Regularly open the central file and select the Audit option upon opening, then save the file. This practice helps prevent data corruption in the central model.
(7) If external team members need to use the central model independently, do not share the central file directly. Instead, separate it from the central file by selecting the Detach from Central option when opening, then provide the detached model for external use.
