How to Quickly Extract Required Layers in CAD
When modeling, CAD drawings are often imported into Revit to assist the process. However, CAD files usually contain a large amount of information. Importing all layers into Revit can slow down performance and disrupt the modeling workflow. Therefore, it is essential to preprocess the drawings and remove unnecessary layers before importing.
If deleting layers one by one is too time-consuming, here is a quick method to extract only the required layers:
- First, open the drawing in AutoCAD. Click on the Default Tab, then go to Layer Properties. This will open the Layer Properties Manager dialog box. Click New Group Filter to create a new layer filter group and rename it to Required Layers, as shown in the image below.
- Select the newly created Required Layers filter group, then right-click and choose Select Layer. Click the Add button on the right, then add the desired layers from the CAD drawing. After selecting the layers, press Enter to quickly extract them. You can also right-click to control which layers are displayed within the filter group, as illustrated in the figure.
In summary, when using Revit for modeling, importing a well-prepared CAD base drawing significantly improves efficiency. Processing the CAD drawing through the steps above will make your workflow smoother and more practical.
