How Revit Constrains Standard Steel Bars
When placing standard steel bar shapes in Revit, you can capture adjacent steel bars. These constraints are maintained during placement, moving, dragging, or copying and pasting of the steel bars.
Follow these steps to apply constraints:
- Go to the Structure tab and select the Reinforcement panel (steel bars).
- Click on the Modify | Place Reinforcement tab, then open the Reinforcement Restriction Conditions panel (constrained placement).
- On the options bar, choose either the Rebar Shape Selector or the Steel Shape Browser to select the desired standard steel bar shape. Note that stirrups and reinforcement bars cannot be constrained during placement.
- Place the steel bars within the concrete element. The steel bars will automatically attach to adjacent standard steel bars. Keep in mind that standard steel bars placed parallel to each other in the view will also be captured by other parallel bars.
Note: Constrained placement works only for individual steel bars.
After placing steel bars, you can move, cut, paste, or change the type of previously constrained steel bars. The constraints will control the movement and adjustments accordingly, as demonstrated in the example below.
To remove a placement constraint, select the constrained steel bar and click on Modify | Structural Reinforcement tab, then open the Reinforcement Restriction Conditions panel (constrained placement).
