The Kaeng Krachan Library is located in a rural area of Thailand, surrounded by lush greenery and a serene natural environment in Petchaburi province. This project was initiated by the owner’s wish to donate a public library to the community, creating a space accessible to a diverse range of visitors. Since the library is managed by a single librarian, the architect designed the space with user-friendly and easy-to-manage functionality.

The architect organized the library into functional zones by combining active and passive areas, dividing the space into five main boxes. Four of these boxes serve as bookshelves for storing and categorizing books, while the central box is dedicated to the librarian’s workspace. Each box is a single-story structure, interconnected through flexible spaces designed to accommodate community members of all ages.

During the design process, the architects carefully considered site-specific elements such as weather and terrain to ensure the building’s form and materials would suit the local environment. These factors influenced both the overall structure and the choice of materials used.
For the Kaeng Krachan Library, materials were chosen based on local availability, including steel, wood, and semi-transparent corrugated panels. This combination adds visual interest to the buildings. Due to the region’s heavy rainfall, the materials were also selected to protect the indoor space from wind and rain while maintaining adequate lighting and ventilation.

As a public library donated to the community, Kaeng Krachan Library provides educational opportunities to local residents and visitors alike. It welcomes everyone interested in learning about design, materials, and related knowledge.

(BIM Architecture)

The library’s roof and walls are constructed from semi-transparent corrugated panels, which allow natural light to fill the interior while reducing energy consumption. Instead of a compact, enclosed space, the design fosters a sense of environmental harmony and community connection.
