BIM Implementation at Guilin High-Tech Wanda Plaza

Project Background

Project Name: Guangxi Guilin Wanda

Project Type: Urban Complex

Project Scale: Guilin High-tech Wanda Plaza is located in Guilin City, Guangxi Province. The complex includes a shopping center, residential buildings, and outdoor commercial streets. The shopping center occupies the southwest portion of the site and features seven floors above ground and two underground levels.

The above-ground areas house various functions such as department stores, outdoor shops, indoor pedestrian streets, secondary flagship stores, children’s entertainment, large-scale retailers, dining facilities (partial on floors 1-3, full on floor 4), and cinemas. The underground levels accommodate supermarkets, parking garages, and equipment rooms.

The shopping center reaches a building height of 32.2 meters, with a total construction area of approximately 164,000 square meters. Of this, around 88,000 square meters are above ground, and roughly 64,700 square meters are underground.

Project Period: September 2014 to October 2014

Related Software: Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Naviswork, Autodesk Ecotect Analysis, and a domestic quantity BIM plugin.

Project Overview

Due to its complex functions and spatial layout, the Guilin Wanda Commercial Complex features a highly intricate network of intersecting pipelines. Within the BIM model, several location-specific profile drawings can be extracted as needed and provided directly to on-site construction teams. This approach significantly reduces delays caused by drawing discrepancies between design and construction parties, thereby improving overall efficiency.

Additionally, the client requested green energy conservation measures and the delivery of a complete as-built model based on the original CAD drawings once construction is finished.

1. Coordination of Professional Models and Collision Detection for Comprehensive Pipeline Design

Collision detection identifies potential interference points in the design. Traditional design methods require gravity-flow pipelines to include elevation data, while non-gravity-flow pipelines typically lack elevation information and only specify equipment pipeline design principles. However, 3D design demands precise dimensional accuracy.

Through collision detection, issues are categorized as follows:

  • Major issues requiring coordination between the owner and all involved parties;
  • Problems resolved by the design team;
  • Issues addressed on the construction site;
  • Unresolved issues due to undetermined factors (e.g., equipment changes);
  • New problems arising from changes in project requirements.

We support the client by providing 3D model screenshots, navigation files, and other resources to help resolve these issues efficiently.

2. Key Quality Control Points Throughout the Design Process:

1) Integrated management of auxiliary design to maintain quality control throughout the design stages.

2) Continuous quality control focused on building format and net height regulation.

3) Implementing collision detection at critical design stages to ensure quality.
