How to Add Two Identical Elevation Names in Revit
During the project process, elevations serve as the most fundamental reference elements. However, in Revit, elevation names cannot be duplicated by default. So, how can you assign two identical names to the same elevation? Below is a concise explanation.
1. First, you need to edit the elevation header family used in your project. Under the Management tab, select the Shared Parameters command to create a shared parameter file, as illustrated in the figure.
2. Create a new group and define a parameter within it. Rename this parameter to Label, as shown in the image.
3. Open the original elevation header family in the project. Select the Edit Label option for the Name field, then add the shared parameter you just created by following the steps in the illustration.
4. Change the parameter type to Annotation, confirm the changes, and load the family back into your project. Next, navigate to the Management tab and open Project Parameters, as depicted in the image.
5. Add the shared parameter Label to the project, following the process shown in the figure.
6. When prompted, select the parameter category as Elevation, then click OK to confirm, as demonstrated in the image.
7. After successfully adding the parameter, load the updated family into your project and apply the necessary adjustments. The Label parameter will now enable you to assign two names to the same elevation, as illustrated.
Summary: This article primarily explains the practical use of shared parameters, using the example of adding names to elevations. Shared parameters have many applications in real-world engineering projects, such as adding them to custom frame families or project information, enabling real-time synchronization and efficient management.
