How to Decorate Walls in Revit Using the Sanming Method
When decorating structural or reinforced concrete (RC) walls in Revit, we face a challenge: these walls have no built-in decorative options, and Revit lacks dedicated tools specifically for wall decoration. To overcome this, we need to adopt alternative techniques using the wall itself, built-in models, or curtain wall tools.
First, start with a building wall:
Go to Building Wall → Edit Type, then modify the wall’s name, thickness, and material as needed, and confirm your changes.
Once the wall is defined, proceed to draw the decorative layer. This approach allows you to add a decorative layer onto structural columns and walls.
For decorating the top portion of the wall, we will use our second method: the built-in model.
Method 2: Built-in Model
Select the working face → choose Built-in Model (Wall) → stretch to desired size → assign material and height → complete the process.
This technique is commonly known as the “sandwich decoration method,” which I wanted to introduce today. Of course, there are many other ways to decorate walls in Revit. Feel free to share your ideas and experiences in the comments below.
