A city should have spaces that resonate with people’s lives and emotions. These spaces embody the city’s unique character, connect past memories, and shape the lifestyle and spatial qualities of the present and future.

Shizhu is a truly unique city. The 6WEI Space is located in Xintiandi, nestled at the foot of Qishan Mountain and alongside the riverside.

The design inspiration stems from the relationship between the cities across the river and the presence of Qishan Mountain.
We observed that people enjoy strolling and lingering by the riverside, which revealed the charm of this urban waterfront space. This led us to reconsider the dynamics of “facing” and “looking” at each other from various perspectives and elevations.

Spatial Concept Animation
Thus, a space born from the urban riverside was created.

The design combines a cityscape interface, a stepped “book mountain,” a contemporary hanging attic, and a memory bridge. These elements create a three-dimensional, multi-layered spatial relationship that bridges indoor and outdoor environments with unique spatial language and place identity.

For instance, the steps of the Book Mountain serve as seating areas where visitors can sit, drink, and read. The BIM design concept was inspired by previous projects involving a series of stepped slopes at the mountain’s base, featuring simple pavilions and coffee tables. Here, people can enjoy tea while overlooking the old suspension bridge and the city on the opposite bank.

Visitors can drink, read, chat, listen to music, and participate in salon gatherings here, making it a lively social hub.

The Spatial Order of ‘Three Parts’
The design features a fully open ‘one point,’ with ‘two points’ blending virtual and real elements, and adjacent ‘three points’ facing one another.

We achieve a sense of sudden enlightenment by transitioning horizontally from high to low, from reality to emptiness, and from closeness to openness.

Accompanying the path to openness is a vital functional walkway, serving as an emotional bridge and axis connecting the entire space. This pathway rekindles memories of the nearby old suspension bridge that once stood here.

A Strong Sense of Ceremony and Spirituality
Many couples choose this space for confessions of love and proposals, making it the heart of the venue. It hosts various events such as runway shows, salon talks, and musical performances.
For the Tujia people, who are 90% sinicized locally, this place represents their journey of growth—a path leading beyond the glass boundaries of daily life and work, towards a broader world and sky.

When longing for their homeland, visitors can turn back and see a hanging attic that belongs to the Tujia ethnic group.

This hanging attic, reinterpreted through tradition and time in a more refined and contemporary form, symbolizes a guardian watching over their reflection.
It serves as the ideal destination and refuge for the lives and emotions of the city and its people.
