How to Hide Revit Linked Models in Navisworks

How to Make Revit Linked Models Visible in Navisworks

Start by opening a Revit model, such as a structural model, and then link the corresponding model—for example, an electromechanical model—as shown in the image. Save the model afterward.

When you open the saved model in Navisworks, you may notice that the linked electromechanical model is not displayed, as illustrated below.

There are two effective methods to resolve the issue of linked models not appearing:

  1. Export the Revit model as an NWC file and open it in Navisworks.

Within Revit, export the scene as an NWC file. Then, in Navisworks, locate the file reader under the settings and open the exported NWC file. The linked electromechanical model should now display correctly, as shown in the image below.

  2. Open the .rvt file directly in Navisworks.

Launch Navisworks and open the Options Editor. Under the File Readers section, select Revit, then check the box labeled “Convert linked files” and click “Confirm.” Now, open the Revit model directly in Navisworks, and the linked electromechanical model will display properly, as demonstrated in the figure.

Summary: Since Navisworks and Revit are part of the same software family, Navisworks can import completed Revit models for further operations such as clash detection and walkthroughs. By following the steps above, you can effectively address the issue of invisible linked models in Revit, simplifying your workflow.
