BIM Software Tip: How Revit Addresses the Issue of Not Being Able to Preview Column Sizes
As illustrated above, the inability to preview the size of columns when placing them on a flat surface can significantly impact work efficiency. This issue often stems from the “Maybe” template having its baseline set to none. To fix this, you can adjust the baseline in the properties bar to the next level above the current plane where the columns are placed.
However, this solution may introduce a new problem: some users might not want to see the outline of the next level’s plane, as shown in the image below.
Another approach involves modifying the visibility settings. You can find the view range editor under the attributes section and adjust the bottom offset and elevation offset values to -1200 and -1800, respectively. But this may make the next level even more prominent, as demonstrated in the following figure.
Fortunately, there is a method that doesn’t require changing the template settings. Instead, it only involves modifying the column materials to resolve the issue.
In my experience, the problem is related to the material assigned to the default template column family. Simply changing it to Concrete – On site pouring of concrete can solve the problem. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message!
