BIM Software Tip: When Should You Restart REVIT?
While using REVIT, you might notice that the software slows down, displays warnings about insufficient memory, or even crashes unexpectedly. How can you minimize these issues while ensuring you have the latest updates installed?
First, if you have been working on a model for an extended period with multiple views open simultaneously, you may experience reduced performance. To improve speed and stability, close any unnecessary views as soon as possible. Alternatively, save your work, close REVIT, and then restart the program. This process releases all occupied resources and helps maintain REVIT’s stability.
Besides long-term usage, several specific operations can cause REVIT to consume large amounts of memory. Here are some common examples:
1. Exporting files such as PDF, DWG, IFC, DWF, etc., causes REVIT to use significant memory.
2. Rendering not only consumes a large amount of memory but also heavily uses CPU resources.
3. Printing tasks have similar resource demands as exporting.
4. Upgrading project files to a newer version.
All these operations require substantial system resources. To maintain optimal performance and stability, it’s recommended to save your file, close REVIT, and restart the software before starting such tasks.
