BIM Software Tip: Understanding the Priority Order of Revit Filters
Today, I want to share a handy trick I recently discovered about the priority order of view filters in Revit. Many users know that filters control how objects appear in a view, but what happens when an object is included in two filters simultaneously? The answer lies in the priority order of the filters within the view settings.
In Revit, the filters in a view are prioritized from top to bottom—the higher a filter is on the list, the higher its priority. For example, imagine we have created two filters:
One filter applies to all pipelines, while the other targets pipelines with the type name “123.” This means pipelines with the type name “123” will be included in both filters.
Next, we can assign different line colors to these two filters and observe the effect:
When the “All” filter is placed above the “123” filter, the pipelines display the color assigned to the “All” filter (red).
Conversely, when the “123” filter is above the “All” filter, the pipelines display the color assigned to the “123” filter (green).
You can adjust the priority order of filters by selecting a filter and using the Up and Down buttons at the bottom of the filter list to move it higher or lower in the order.
