Pavilion Form

Overall Plan (BIM Design)

This project is situated in Patagonia, Chile, specifically in the X region, along the eastern shore of Rupanco Lake. The design brief called for a family gathering space. The building is conceived as a pavilion, providing versatile spaces adaptable for various uses and occasions.

The ground floor is organized around a dual stove configuration, featuring a grill on one side and a chimney on the opposite side. This setup allows the space to function flexibly as both a barbecue area and a combined living and dining room. The second floor includes a public area that can also serve as a bedroom. The connection between the two floors also forms the roof structure of the outdoor courtyard.

External Form
The design of this exhibition hall is primarily influenced by two environmental factors: rain and wind. The building features a continuous steel fuselage resembling cotton, designed to shield internal spaces from harsh weather conditions.
During summer, the cold southern winds are blocked by the bay at the lake’s front. In winter, a secondary staircase acts as a barrier against the cold northern winds. Additionally, the structure connecting the two floors entirely covers the outdoor courtyard, protecting it from persistent rain and intense sunlight.
Two-century-old trees on the site have played a crucial role in determining the building’s final placement, creating a harmonious contrast with the surrounding elements and distant landscapes.
