How to Create Parametric Color Steel Plates in Revit
In Revit modeling, factory exterior wall panels are often made up of color steel plates with fixed specifications and sizes. By creating parameterized family files, you can significantly improve work efficiency.
Here is a step-by-step guide:
1. Start by creating a new metric standard model. Draw two reference planes and annotate the dimensions. Since the color steel plates come in fixed sizes, you can adjust dimensions without adding extra parameters.
2. Draw the extrusion according to the dimension drawings. During installation, it’s common that not all dimensions will be exact, and only the original dimensions can be trimmed. Therefore, you need to add a hollow extrusion for parameter control.
3. Draw two additional reference planes, add dimensions, and lock them to control the hollow extrusion.
4. Draw two more reference planes and add instance parameters. (Instance parameters allow you to drag and adjust directly in the plan view.)
5. Create a hollow extrusion and lock it with the reference planes. Make it slightly larger than the original size horizontally. Repeat the same process on the right side.
6. Switch to the front view, add a height parameter, and lock the hollow extrusion accordingly.
Summary: By following these steps, you will learn how to create parameterized families that allow color steel plates of any length to be formed in engineering projects. Using parameterized families effectively can help solve many complex modeling challenges.
