A Step-by-Step Guide to Adding Scripts in Navisworks

How to Add Scripts in Navisworks

When using Navisworks for walkthroughs, it can be inconvenient to enter doorways when collision and gravity settings are disabled. Creating a door-opening animation and adding a corresponding script makes this process much easier, as illustrated below.

1. First, use the Animator tool to create an animation for opening the door, as shown in the image.

2. Next, select the Scripter tool. A dialog box will appear. Click the “Add New Script” button at the bottom left of the dialog to create a new script named “open the door”, as demonstrated.

3. Below the timeline, there is a row of commands. This example uses hotspot trigger commands, though you can experiment with others. Begin by selecting the door, as depicted.

4. Then, click on the trigger button and configure the settings in the pop-up dialog box for the feature. You can adjust the radius to your preferred value, as shown.

5. Afterward, set the playback animation by adding the “open the door” animation in the properties dialog box, as illustrated.

6. Finally, enable the script by clicking the corresponding button, as indicated.

Summary: From this guide, it’s clear that adding scripts in Navisworks enhances roaming by enabling interactive actions such as opening doors, providing greater flexibility in navigation.
