Several Ways to Open the Family Editor with New Features in Revit 2019
The Family Editor enables you to modify existing families or create new ones. The method you use to open the Family Editor depends on the task you want to accomplish.
Editing a Family Within a Project
You can edit a family by performing any of the following actions:
- Select a family instance in the drawing area, then click the Modify | <element> tab under the Mode panel to enter the Family Editor.
- Double-click the family instance directly in the drawing area.
Note: The double-click editing behavior is determined by the “Double-click option” settings for the family element type.
Editing Loadable Families Outside of a Project
Click File, then open the Family tab. Browse to the family file you want to edit, and click Open.
Creating a Loadable Family from a Template
Click File, then select New Family. Browse to the desired template file and click Open to start creating a new loadable family.
Creating Built-in Graphic Elements
On the ribbon, click the built-in model command from the following locations:
- Architecture tab → Build panel → Components dropdown list
- Structure tab → Model panel → Components dropdown list
- System tab → Model panel → Components dropdown list
In the Family Category and Parameters dialog box, select the appropriate family category and click OK.
Enter the name of the built-in element family and click OK to confirm.
Editing Built-in Graphic Elements
Select the built-in element in the graphic area, then click the Modify | <element> tab under the Model panel to edit built-in elements.
