How to Choose Design Options and Elements in the Main Model for New Features in Revit 2019
Use the Exclude Options and Only Activity Items tools to clearly select design options or elements within the main model.
To avoid unintended results or confusion, when you are editing design options in Revit, the software restricts you from selecting elements in the main model. Similarly, when editing the main model, you cannot select elements from the design options. However, if necessary—such as when adding dimensions between main model elements and design option elements—you can explicitly enable these selections.
Selecting Elements in Design Options While Editing the Main Model
On the status bar, clear the Exclude Options setting. This allows you to select elements from the design options.
Note: This option is available only when you are viewing both the main model and design options but are not actively editing the design options.
Selecting Elements in the Main Model While Editing Design Options
On the status bar, clear the Only Activity Items setting. This enables selection of elements in the main model as well as in other option sets.
Note: This option is available when you are actively editing design options.
Identifying the Design Option to Which an Element Belongs
Hover your cursor over an element to highlight it.
If the element does not highlight, clear Exclude Options or Only Activity Items on the status bar, then hover over the element again.
The status bar and tooltips display information about the highlighted element’s category, family, and type. If the element belongs to a design option, they also show the design option set and the specific design option in the following format:
(<Design Options>:<Design Option>):<Category>:<Family>:<Type>
If the element belongs to the main model, the status bar and tooltips do not display any design option information.
