How to Create Components Using New Features in Revit 2019

Revit 2019 introduces enhanced support for the construction modeling workflow by allowing you to create components directly from selected elements within the drawing area.

There are two main workflows to create a component:

Workflow 1: Select the Graphic Elements First

Begin by selecting the elements you want to include in the assembly within the drawing area.

Next, navigate to the Modify | <element Type> tab and click on the Create panel, then select Create Components.

In the New Components dialog box:

• If the component is unique, you can edit the default Type Name. This name is automatically generated by appending a serial number to the last component type name in the specified naming category.
• If the component contains elements from multiple categories, you may select a different naming category. If the component remains unique under this new category, you can also edit the type name accordingly.
• Click Confirm to complete the creation. The new component type will then be added to the Project Browser.

If matching components already exist:

• The Type Name field will be read-only.
• Clicking Confirm will create another instance of the existing component type.
• If the new component includes elements from other categories, you can choose a different naming category. If this change results in a unique component, you may edit the type name before confirming.

Workflow 2: Select the Tool First

Start by clicking the Modify tab, then the Create panel, and select Create Components.

The toolbar will display Add/Remove options with Add selected by default.

In the drawing area, select the elements to include in your assembly.

Click Complete to exit sketch mode.

The New Components dialog box will appear, where you can follow the same steps described in Workflow 1 to name and confirm your new component.
