How to Create a Curved Grid in Revit
Many buildings in real life feature curved outer walls, such as cylindrical structures like bird nests or traditional earthen buildings. When modeling these in Revit, it’s essential to know how to create curved grids.
Follow these steps to draw curved grids in Revit:
1. Locate a drawing that contains a curved grid.
2. Open the drawing in Revit under the Building Samples section.
3. Select the Elevation 1 view to begin drawing. Use a reference plane to accurately position the central angle, then set the location for the left parallel grid axis.
4. Once the position is determined, click on the “Multiple Lines” tool under the drawing tools.
5. Use the “Pick Lines” function to complete the horizontal grid lines.
6. For the right half of the grid, draw along the diagonal reference line on the right side, then use the “Pick Lines” tool to finish the right half grid.
7. Repeat the same process to draw the left half of the grid.
8. Finally, add an elevation in the middle of the curve and make simple modifications to the grid as needed.
