How to Combine Text Parameters in Revit Detail Tables

How to Merge Text Parameters in Revit Detail Tables

For example, you may want to merge parameters such as Text1 and Text2 into a combined parameter called Text1 + Text2.

Solution:

Starting with Revit 2017, a new “merge parameters” feature was introduced in schedules, allowing multiple parameters to be combined and displayed within a single cell. You can specify prefixes, suffixes, sample values, and delimiters to control how each parameter appears.

Steps to Merge Parameters in a Detail Table:

When creating or editing a detailed schedule, you can access the Merge Parameters dialog box.

If you want to create a merged parameter while working in the Detail Table Properties, click the Merge Parameters button in the dialog box.

To edit an existing merged parameter in the Detail Table Properties, select the merged parameter you want to modify and click Edit Parameters.

Within the schedule view, select a cell and then navigate to the Modify Detail Table | Quantity tab. In the Parameters panel, click Merge Parameters.

If the column already contains merged parameters, you can edit them; otherwise, you can create a new merged parameter for that column and display it.

You can add or remove parameters by moving them between the two panes in the dialog box:

  • In the Detail Table Parameters pane, highlight the parameter you wish to merge and click Add Parameter to move it to the Merge Parameters pane.
  • To remove a parameter from the merged group, highlight it in the Merge Parameters pane and click Remove Parameter to move it back to the Detail Table Parameters pane.

Optional: You can add prefixes, suffixes, or sample values to each parameter. Sample values will appear at the bottom of the dialog box in the Preview section, allowing you to make adjustments as needed.

By default, a slash (/) is used as the delimiter between merged parameters. You can specify a different delimiter symbol in the Delimiter field.

Optional: Enter a name for the merged parameter in the Merge Parameter Names field. If left blank, the system will use the preview text value as the name.

This name will appear in the Detail Table Properties dialog under the Format tab and will also be shown as the column heading in the detail table.

Once you have configured the merged parameters, click Confirm in the Merge Parameters dialog box to apply your changes.
